Description

The Oldest Wonder from the seven wonders in history and in the world
Giza, on the southern outskirts of Cairo is the location of the Pyramid of Khufu (also known as the "Great Pyramid" and the "Pyramid of Cheops";), the somewhat smaller Pyramid of Khafre (or Kephren), and the relatively modest-sized Pyramid of Menkaure (or Mykerinus), along with a number of smaller satellite edifices, known as leens pyramids, and the Great Sphinx.

Of the three, only Khafre's pyramid retains part of its original polished limestone casing, towards its apex. Interestingly this pyramid appears larger than the adjacent Khufu pyramid by virtue of its more elevated location, and the steeper angle of inclination of its construction — it is, in fact, smaller in both height and volume.

The Giza Necropolis has arguably been the world's most popular tourist destination since antiquity, and was popularised in Hellenistic times when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Today it is the only one of the ancient Wonders still in existence
The number of pyramid structures in Egypt today is reported by most sources as being between 80 and 110, with a majority favouring the higher number. In 1842 Lepsius made a list of pyramids, in which he counted 67, although more have been identified and discovered since his time. The imprecise nature of the count appears related to the fact that as many smaller pyramids are in a poor state of preservation and appear as little more than mounds of rubble, they are only now being properly identified and studied by archaeologists. Most are grouped in a number of pyramid fields, the most important of which are listed geographically, from north to south

I like the third one the best as well, it has good composition, and it lacks the people that make the other ones feel like just another tourist's snapshot.

i love all four of them .. I am actually the fondest of the thrid one as well ... breathtaking :)

From the top
1 lacking edges of Pyramids. I appreciate its difficuly due to the wide angle lens required as I photographed them and the first thing I thought was " Holy S##t they are BIG" I also do not like the position of the camel riders..

2 Shot taken from right of the Bus/car park. again the need for edges of Pyrimads in frame lost. and to many tourists.

3 great location but over-exposed and i am not sure its straight..

4 wrong time of day, lighting wrong and far to contrasty..

But at least you live in Egypt so getting back shouldnt be that Hard ;)

Nice captures(thumbup)

The colours look great
I agree with A-H that the edges are not visible of the Pyramids.

My favourite is the 4th, although there are too many people visible underneath.
You could crop it a bit from the bottom but than again you would lost a significant part of the Sphynx. The dilemma!:p

Great collage overall + 9

Brian (almost-human) covered the critiques pretty well. I actually like the 1st and 3rd for their sense of scale by using the few people to compare size to. Underexposing these or shooting early morning or early evening would add greatly to the shots.

Gary & Brian have pointed out most of the things !!
For shooting with natural light usually early morning & late evenings are the best conditions.
Around 4 - 4.30 pm u will get longer shadows, it can also be a nice time to try these shots !!
Also i prefer that every element in the photo should contribute to it, and hence even traces of clouds will be gr8 addition (not sure u get them regularly in the desert :p) !!
When shooting in sun try using a polorizer filter !!

what i like about the shots is the mammothness u captured by having ppl close to the lense to for comparison !! I understand the wide angle lense issue, but u can try & take 2-3 shot vertically & stich up a panorama of them !! Try using Auto-Pano or the new photoshop CS3 beta !!

keep posting more of Egypt !! :)

Dakoo summarized it all very well.
Al-h comment is as always right on the spot!

Using the right light conditions is key in the desert...

Thanks for sharing! I would love to visit those pyramids one day!

Everything is already been said about technical improvements.
I will also say thanks for sharing those historical monuments with us. I think having all these amazing stuff in your country is a big challenge for you to continue trying to ''catch'' the perfect shot of them! Keep on shooting!

Second one is the best because in that photo you get to see how big pyramids actually are, thanks to the people standing near it!
Even I didnt thought pyramids would be that big!!
Amazing!! Really makes you wonder....

the third one is my fav. reminds me a little of AH's picture of the pyramids. the sky could be a bit better exposed.
well done!

Good photos, but I think the 3rd and 4th ones are best. On the others, the pyramids dominate the composition too strongly, "beating down" the figures.
+ 9/10
